Using an Existing Domain Name
If you already have a domain name that you would like to use with your web hosting account with us, you can either do so by having the DNS nameservers changed to ours, or initiate a domain transfer to us. However, it is not necessary to transfer your domain to us for use with our web hosting service.
Using an existing domain with our service (DNS Change – No Transfer)
You can use an existing domain for use with our web hosting service and there is no extra charge from us to do so. To do this, you will need to contact the ISP, web hosting or domain service provider currently hosting your domain and ask them to have the DNS name servers changed to the following:
ns.mainnameserver.com
ns2.mainnameserver.com
Transferring a domain to us (.uk domains)
If transferring an existing .uk domain name to us, as well as the above DNS nameserver change, you will also need to provide the following IPS Tag to the existing domain provider. This is: TUCOWS-CA (this tag should be given as shown in upper case).
Transferring a domain to us (non-UK domains)
To use your existing domain with us we recommend you use the above method to have your domain’s DNS servers changed to ours. If you would rather have your entire domain account transferred away from the existing Registry to ours, you will need to contact us and ask us to initiate the domain transfer request to our system.
Please note that when a domain account is transferred to us, this will will be deemed by our domain Registry as a new 2 year domain renewal for which you will be charged at the domain prices shown on our prices page.
Transferring a domain away from us
You are free to transfer your domain name away from us for use with a different provider at any time. However, please note that we reserve the right to make an admin charge of £14.95 if the domain is transferred away from us within the first 90 days of hosting the domain with us. This also applies where a free domain registration has been applied when ordering your hosting account with us.
Please contact us with the new provider’s DNS name servers and IPS Tag if it’s a .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk domain.
